Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. A House Divided

Perhaps it's inevitable that in an increasingly complicated world we try to put things in some kind of comprehensible order by hanging labels on each other. That way we can avoid the hard work of trying to cut through the complexities by actually giving some real thought to things. Step number one is accepting the increasingly difficult notion that we all want the same thing, peace and prosperity for all. It's just that we have different ideas of how to accomplish it. Conservatives detest liberals, depicting them as wild-eyed lunatics who would kill babies and save trees, and would eagerly turn America over to the "enemy," whoever the hell it is. Liberals detest conservatives, seeing them as myopic troglodytes without genuine feelings or thoughts to the future who want to march around the world in jackboots making new enemies and stealing everyone's oil. And to make it really simple we have Rosie and Elizabeth duking it out on national television, the strident witch vs. the blonde airhead, each eschewing rational debate as they personify our worst fears about the other "side." Meanwhile, if they can't talk to each other sanely, what hope is there for the Shia and Sunnis? All it takes to start a conflagration is one hurled rock. Remember Cain and Abel?

Last night for the first time in over a week, I had a few moments free so tuned into the news networks to see what was going on in the world. The first station I turned on was discussing the Rosie and Eliz. situation. OK, one to two minutes should cover this event if one must cover it but this was going on and on with the commentator and all the experts(?)discussing it ad infinitum so I changed to another station, guess what, on all four news stations (?) the subject was the same. I turned it off. If I want to hear bickering, I will go visit the in-laws, says she laughing. With all the horrible things happening in the world, why is Rosie and Eliz. important?

Great cartoon, John C. but it is even hard to get even two people to listen to other's side, it is hopeless in a group, no wonder the world is in a mess. The war in Iraq is a perfect example. All the politicians talk in cliques, not bothering to try to come up with solutions and the public is not any better. Sometimes I wonder how humanity survived all these years.

I think the solution to peace in the Middle East is for Halliburton to send Rosie and Elizabeth there to deck it out on foreign soil. When the Palestinians and the Israelis see what two women are capable of doing to each other in the name of “I am right!” the lion will lie down with the lamb without making lambchops; the Shias and the Sunnis will stop killing each other and start killing Rosie and Elizabeth. Remember me when nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize come round again.

For Jean's sake, Rosie and Elisabeth are two goddesses of morning television here, the latter a conservative and the former a liberal, who stopped just short of ripping each other's hair out on national television, and since there's so little of importance or interest going on in the world the fued has received an inordinate amount of attention in the media.

You have my vote, prof.

And mine, il professore. Have missed your wit. Glad that you are back posting. How is Ms. Cat with no Name surviving? Has she returned to your bed yet?

Jean, believe me, you have not missed a single thing by not viewing their show. I am surprised that it was not splashed around the world due to the importance (?) of it. A three day news event over here. UK got an earful of it,as well, says she laughing.
