Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Our Father Who Art Under Indictment

I've been wondering, if you have lawyer-client privelege, and priest-confessional privelege, when you put a lawyer and a priest together do they cancel each other out? Or to put it in another way, how many priests and lawyers together does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Answer: Doesn't matter, the lightbulb's going to get screwed.

There is an old saying, born a Catholic, die a Catholic. I was born a Catholic, turned Quaker (Friends Society) in the 70s. Got breast cancer in 01 and guess who turned back to the saints in 01. Well, I am a 6 going on 7 year survivor so I think I will call myself a Cathquak. I find I believe in both religions and they seem to bump along fairly well in my brain without conflict. Priests are men, not God, not Jesus, nor the church. I hope the ones who abused the children rot in hell but I can not turn my back on the church because of their acts. I know it is not popular to state God has helped one but I believe that He did help heal me. I never had a doubt (well, maybe in the middle of the night when the boogie bears would come out) but mostly I had faith that I would recover. I, also, did all the things that my doctor recommended based on ' God helps those who help themselves'.

I dunno, Lee, I just don't think that turning one's back on the church equates to turning one's back on God. An embrace of God is spiritual; an embrace of the church is social.

Have to agree with you, John. It seems to me that most churches are social clubs. One of my friends said she found the local fire station to have the best contact with the spirit of what a church should have.

John C, you misunderstood me. I do not mean going to mass, etc. I meant the spiritual teaching of the church. Many people have tarred the church and it's teachings because of the actions of the priests and bishops. They do not understand that these men are humans with all their weaknesses who have fallen by the wayside. As I said, I hope they rot in hell and I have nothing but comtempt for them.
