Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. The Elephant in the Room

One of the more surreal experiences of my life was meeting O.J. It was just a few weeks after a jury had found him innocent of the murders of Nicole and Ron, and he was with his son at a fair at the middle school his son attended. The sons of a friend of mine also went to the school, and I'd volunteered to do tarot readings to help with the fund-raising. What struck me as incongruous was the total disconnect between the man who had so recently been accused of a brutal crime, which half the country still believed he'd committed, and the cheerful, smiling man who was enjoying the day with his boy like any other dad. There was a moment there when it seemed he might have his cards read, but he decided against it. I think we both were afraid of what might come up. I can see it now, me telling The Juice, "ah, my friend, the death card, have you by any chance been involved with any murders lately?"

That would be strange indeed! What an experience! I'm glad you didn't read his cards...for YOUR sake!
I wonder, John, with all the celebrities you rub shoulders with...how it is you remain unaffected and true to yourself? It's as though you are a traveler between two, (three? four?) worlds.

Tarot cards? Is there anything you cannot do? I have never believed in the reading of those cards, but found them a sourse of entertainment.
I have not met many celebrities or known them well, but I suspect most of them prefer to try to live a normal life "out of the headlines", just like normal people.
The small town I now live in is on Lake Apopka which back in the 30's and 40's was known as the best large fishing lake in the South. Clark Gable used to come here often, stayed at the hotel here and did not wear his false teeth so that he would not be recognized.

I am surprised that OJ's lawyers didn't bring up in his defense that as a dyslexic he couldn't read the instructions on the knife. roger
