Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Out Damned Spot

The suggestion has been made in the media that there's something very Shakesperean about the current political situation, but in fact it's closer to Lewis Carroll. The liberals, along with the candidates, are screaming about John McCain's supposedly saying we'll be in Iraq another hundred years, except that's a complete distortion of what he did say. The conservatives, along with McCain himself, keep charging the Democratic candidates with wanting a "precipitous" withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. That too is a shameful misrepresentation. Until our leaders grow up and stop acting like squabbling schoolyard brats it's going to be impossible to have a serious and productive national dialogue on the issues that confront us. Meanwhile the economy is tanking, our young men are dying, and billions of dollars are going down the tube. Is there any chance for us?

Now what would make you think that we are any different from all the other countries? Obama opens mouth and inserts foot, Hillary live in a never never land and McCain is making like the boy scout. No matter who gets into office, it will be the same old same old. Us little folks will still be in debt, sweating our mortgages and running in place. In the meantime, Bill will make another 10 million a year with speeches, Gore will win another prize, make millions, Brittany will get into trouble with the police while the media moans for her , etc. etc and life will go on as before. Bitter, not me, do not own a gun and was praying long before Obama came on the scene.

From an outside point of view... I just wish the elections could be tomorrow. I am concerned that the trivial issues are keeping your country from addressing the real ones... and dare I suggest it... giving your enemies some measure of advantage. Bring it on. As the days go on it matters less who gets in anyway... if they keep this up there will be not much left worth fighting over!

I'll probably get my head lopped off for this post... but what the hey. My heart's in the right place.

No head biting from me. Every POV is welcome here. Hey, it's all just kharma, or dharma, or whatever. Whatever happens is what's meant to happen. As for bitterness, Lee, quite the opposite as far as I'm concerned, I'm a cartoonist. If people weren't schmucks I'd be at a loss for material.
