Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Crash

While few today remember the depression with clarity, those of us of a certain age had parents who did, and it was common for them to scold us when we left a room with the lights still on: "Do you have stock in the electric company?" That kind of awareness that resources are finite is in short supply today, even as the world hurtles toward a reckoning. It's time we started living every moment as if we were inhabiting a desert island and supplies were running out. Ideally we should do it in a spirit not of sacrifice or deprivation, but with a bouyant sense of pride and purpose.

Love the cartoon John. It's very much of the moment.... and you're right... gives kids (and everyone else) the wrong idea. Some situations can not be traded out of.

Ooops... didn't mean to say the cartoon gives the wrong idea... but the concept of the easy fix. (Just to clarify!) LOL

Thanks, Jean. Actually your mneaning was clear, and yes, you're right. Kids already walk around with a sense of empowerment. The message they get is that it doesn't matter how reckless you are, someone will bail you out.

My kids call it the "entitled" generation. Thank heavens they don't live by it! LOL

Should AIG been bailed out. Not sure. We have a mess on our hands which always happens when people are more greedy than honorable. Lots of people will be much poorer before this is finished. Lots of people will become even richer before this is finished. No one said life is fair.

Appropriate cartoon today, John C. Plus it is funny.

Economics experts here reckon it'll just prolong the inevitable. In the past if the US sneezed the rest of the world got a cold. What happens now that the US has pneumonia is anyone's guess.

I saw where a while back McC was all for de-regulating Wall St. Now he's all for strict regulatory control. Does kinda make you wonder what the politicians will be "all for" next week? :-/

No... not cynical (at all) chuckles

The time is almost here when we'll have to behave so out of necessity!
