Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Just Folks

Jean's comment yesterday (bless you, Jean) that all this may be metaphorical reminds me of the time director Milos Foreman was discussing his brilliant satirical film The Fireman's Ball, made while he was still living and working in then Czechoslovakia. Milos talked about how the entire firemen's union of the country threatened to strike because they felt he had been making fun of them. He was forced to appear at a union meeting to explain that he wasn't making fun of them at all, he was making fun of the government system. The firemen were all puffed up to learn that they were a metaphor representing the leadership of the country, and so went back to work. "But you know something," Milos added. "the movie is really about firemen."

Check out Jean's always interesting blog at http://jeanburman.com/. I only wish she'd post more frequently, but hey, she's a busy artist and writer.

A Pale Reflection of Myself

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Huh?

My apologies. The blogger.com gremlins are at it again today, somehow preventing me from uploading images. I'll try again a bit later, but in the meantime enjoy the story of the wise man who said, "time is the great healer." "But," the student asked, "what if you're feeling fine in the first place?"

Okay, it's working now.

Hiccups

The blogosphere gremlins got busy, and although my post appeared yesterday it was inexplicably without the cartoon this morning. In my attempt to rectify the situation the whole blog got deleted, so I'm re-posting yesterday's along with today's.

Today's cartoon:

A Fertile Area For Research

Thanks to my friend Dr. Richard Brown for actually paying attention here. The good doctor was the only person to notice and then report to me that last Sunday was the first day in three and a half years that I didn't post a cartoon. I have to admit, I totally forgot. Brain fade. Old-timers disease. Whatever. I'm dismayed with myself. But not very.
