Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Unlike Father....

Educators and parents associations are deeply concerned with what they perceive as a "problem" with schoolyard bullies, but they miss the larger picture. Bullying is nothing but a ritualized aspect of the human experience (like sports and window shopping). We're a nation of bullies, accountants and a tiny minority of independent thinkers, and it's reflected on the playground where the accountants suck up to the bullies and they all beat the crap out of the independent thinkers.

This one had me falling off my seat with laughter. I remember the school bullies well. My solution to the problem was to run as fast as my little legs could move! When one is born with red hair, one learns how to move quickly early in life.

I hear you, Lee. I was an independent thinker, but I was athletic enough to usually escape the wrath of the bullies. There was one pint-size bully in junior high who made my life a misery until one day in the gym locker room he was snapping a towel at me until I snapped. There we were, the two of us on the floor nekkid while I repeatedly slammed his head on the cold tiles. They had to drag me off him. He left me alone after that. There was only one other time I went berserk that way, when I was a cub scout. The much taller boy scout who was our den leader tormented me daily until one day I knocked him out with an uppercut that surprised even me. He dropped like a rock. It scared the bejeezus out of me. I thought I'd killed him and was headed for Sing Sing.
