I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies.

Uneasy Lie the Heads
Back during the Falklands War the Queen's son Prince Andrew saw action flying a helicopter without too much brouhaha or media attention, but these are different times. The war in Iraq is being fought with as much PR hyping as military might, so it's no surprise that the question of whether or not the Royal Brat Prince Harry will be sent into harm's way is being squeezed for every ounce of possible ink. According to the press Harry, trained as a tank commander, is demanding he be allowed to see combat with his "mates," you know, the ones he gets roaring drunk with on his time off. Parliament has got into the act, concerned that the high-spirited lad will be a high-profile target for Al Qaeda, endangering himself and his fellow soldiers. Well, of course he would, especially now that everyone has made such a big deal out of it. Except that you know darn well that when he does ship out, as surely he will, he'll be protected better than McCain, Cheney, and Condi put together, while enduring daily photo ops choking down MRE's. One gets the feeling the whole media campaign has been mapped out long in advance.

I have no idea if Prince Harry will be a plus or a minus in Iraq. But anytime one of the royals get into the act, you can bet the average UK tax payer will bear the brunt for it.. It is OK, folks, I was an UK member long before becoming an American. Love this cartoon.
Great commentary as well.
I find this cartoon extremely offensive.
If you disagree with the politics of President Bush, make fun of THAT, NOT his intelligence, and NOT his wife, if for no other reason than out of respect for his position as national leader.
Personal attacks on public figures should be beneath you.
I also find this cartoon extremely offensive. cartoons are supposed to be offensive. roger
Really? I thought cartoons were supposed to be funny.
Sarcasm suggests sharp taunting and ridicule that wounds. Is that what The Fool's Journey is about?
I can totally accept if someone doesn't find this cartoon funny, but offensive. I feel that leaders, like everyone else, must earn respect rather than having it conferred upon them. And even when I respect someone they're still fair game for roasting. It's the fool's duty to deflate.
Gosh... offensive? What planet are you on anonymous? For mercy's sake do not ever cross the Pacific! If you find this offensive... you will find the irreverence of the aussie sense of humor more than obnoxious for sure! We're just a bunch of scallywags tho really! LOL
Very British John... LOL
Must be from a far better place than earth, otherwise I wouldn't be constantly disappointed by high expectations that are never met.
And I've already crossed the Pacific, as well as a the Atlantic. I didn't notice a big difference. The packaging may be a bit different, but once the pretty wrapping is stripped away, people are pretty much the same wherever one goes.
Anonymous... you sound like you need some cheering up. You're right there are good and bad everywhere... trick is to look for the good. It's surprising how very often you find it when you go looking. If you feel like it... take a look at www.forbetterlife.org it will put a smile on your dial... promise! :-)
That was really whiney of me. Sorry.
Not whiney at all... can really relate! I hope you get time to check out that website! From the home page... click on INSPIRATION... then click on TVRADIO then click on the film clip "Hope to Dance". It's fantastic! I take a look at that little clip almost every day... it cheers me up no end and reminds me of the small(important)things :-)
(my turn to apologise) Sorry John... not meaning to slew anyone off your excellent blog site... but it's definitely worth a look! :-)
Dance is a very popular analogy for "life" in contemporary country music, and Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" is one of my favorites.
But after a couple of glasses of wine, sitting on my back porch watching the stars, I prefer to listen to Garth Brook's "The Dance", with the operative line in the lyrics being, "I could've missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance"
Please forgive me, John, for using your blog as a message board, but I don't know how to email people personally.
And thanks for the link, Jean. I appreciate it.
No apologies necessary from anyone. I don't see this site as a dead end, but rather a path that leads to other avenues. And if it can serve as a message board, so much the better, given the good people I'm lucky enough to have gathering here. (And anonymous, you might also want to check out Jean's blog: www.jeanburman.com.)
