Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Lost in Translation

I'm fascinated by the ambivelent relationship the U.S. is having with latinos right now. On the one hand illegal immigration is what's called a hot button issue, otherwise known as a wedge issue. On the other hand, the candidates are courting the latino vote like crazy. Suddenly they're all speaking Spanish. I fully expected Sen. Ted Kennedy the other day, while campaigning for Barack Obama in Los Angeles, to blurt out, "Ich bin ein Messicano."

Can someone please explain why the entire Kennedy clan, including those who married Republican governors, are deserting Hillary? What has she ever done to them? I think Obama has a ton of charisma and speaks passionately and intelligently, just as if Jack Kennedy’s old speechwriters were all working full-time for him, but what’s happening to the loyalty of the Democratic Party’s establishment to their own? I don’t get it.

Hillary made a bad mistake in my opinion when she let Bill upstage her on the campaign trail. It made her look weak. I don't think that she deserves the treatment that she is receiving from all the Kennedys and the media.

Great cartoon, John C

Roger said “In the marble cake that makes up the democratic party they (the Clintons) are but one strand.”

Roger, surely that strand is the liberal, progressive part of the party whose heroes include FDR, Truman and Kennedy. Why the Kennedy clan chooses to discard Hillary for a relative unknown puzzles me. What is it about his policies that so appeals to them, or is it that they feel they can influence, even manipulate him and not her? If the Democratic Party’s establishment is made up of other factions, one of which is no longer the reactionary south, what and where are they and what have they got against her or her husband?
