Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Kids Today

Picking up on the subject of today's young people that I've touched on here before, as well as the theme of a worrisome decline in manners that my friend Jean Burman is presently exploring in her blog (www.jeanburman.com), my lacrosse team won yesterday 5-1 against their most intense rival. Happy news for us, but more to the above point, during the game two players chased a ball to the sideline where I happened to be standing, and I was driven backwards by their combine weight. I fell straight back with nothing to break my fall, slamming my head on the metal bench. I'm an astonishingly tough old bird, so I sustained no injury beyond being very briefly shaken up. My players were concerned, of course, but what was edifying to me was that after the gane several of the players from the opposing team, who had just been soundly beaten, came up to me to ask with sincere concern if I was alright. There's hope for us, folks.

Holy cow... the lengths some of us will go to, to elicit good manners courtesy and kindness from others! (((chuckles)))

Hope you're not experiencing any ongoing aches and pains John! Wonderful consolation though to know... despite it all... there are still good people out there everywhere! Great story.

Concur with Jean, John C. and hope that you are not stiff and sore tomorrow. So happy that your team won! Way to go! This is a great cartoon by the way.

Lee and Jean, thanks for the concern, but amazingly I'm resilient, even at this advanced age. The kids made me laugh. They said, "we bet you really enjoyed it since it brought back memories of when you were playing."

I've just rediscovered your web site and blog via Robert Genn's The Painters' Keys. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your FLW video production! Now I come here to find that you've been knocked over by the kids! Were you enacting a bowling ball monologue? Seriously, John, I'm glad you're a tough old bird and got up with no permanent damage. As for lack of manners in today's younger generation, I've noticed that. I'm glad to hear that there is still hope. Keep those cartoons coming. You are unbelievably creative!

John,
I’ve seen enough old B&W Warner Bros. movies to be worried. It usually took a reel or two before amnesia or other maladies, sometimes tropical, set in and the protagonist’s personality took a turn usually for the worse. Should you start talking like Bette Davis or lighting two cigarettes on one match, let us know. So far your drawing is up to its usual high-standard, but if Jeremy starts shrinking again, I’ll know we’re in for a bumpy ride.

John... if you were in your 80s I might let you get away with this one... but seeing as you are no where near that... not a chance. Go on get out there... you've got aways to go yet! ~grin~ LOL
