Money, Money, Money
As President Franklin D. Roosevel said in his Second Inaugural Address in 1937, "We always knew that heedless self-interest was bad morals, now we know it's bad economics." The opposite pole of economic theory is laissez-faire, which is less than fair to most people. Economists have this infuriating habit of saying things like, "today's bad news is, in fact, good news in the long run," which is akin to the man who said he likes to hit his head against the wall because it feels so good when he stops.

Jeremy's definitely onto something... he's a smart kid! LOL Funny cartoon John... and spot on commentary!
Crazy isn't it? Back in the early 90s the economic downturn here was portrayed by Govt as "the recession we had to have" Sadly it washed for a while as people happily fell into line believing their suffering was all toward some greater good.
It wasn't.
And it took another 10 years or so (and another Govt) to dig us out.
Alas... now the tide has turned again.
I am with Jeremy. So tired of all of this and think that Obama has let down the side completely. Afraid another Jimmy Carter is ahead of us. Why didn't people listen to Hillary? She would have atleast kept her word. Sick of this whole fiasco. We had a good candidate, ok, maybe Bill might have been a bit of a problem but nothing like what Obama is going to be. He knows nothing and is not standing by what he said in the beginning. People are like sheep and will go with the main media. God help us all. Don't all of you jump on me at one time, please.
Bit of a leap from the economy (today's subject) to Obamabashing, isn't it, Lee? [grin] Or maybe not.
It was me (what) did it (grin) speaking of Govt. and such.
Lee... I can really empathise with your frustration. It's so hard to sit by and watch the wheels fall off the wagon and know that you can't do a darned thing about it. Especially when you care deeply for the outcome. Such is the nature of democracy though (unfortunately).
It irks me especially when people stand up after the event and remind us that "the people" voted for this administration (Govt). That can only ever be 50% true at any given time... but this fact is always conveniently overlooked when someone is trying to ram home a particular viewpoint.
I think people will live to regret the ditching of Hillary... (but that is only my opinion which as a foreigner counts for zip) But I have my fingers crossed for a good outcome in the forthcoming elections.
Sometimes I think it's easier to accept that the future has already been written and we are simply living out "what's meant to be". Takes a heck of a load off! LOL
Sorry John! :-/ Didn't mean hijack your topic but I thought it was important to say. You may delete if you wish. (sincerest smiley) LOL
No matter what, Jean, this little corner of the world is a "delete-free" zone. You and Lee can say whatever you want here, even if it has nothing whatsoever to do with the day's main topic. Indeed, perhaps I should encourage everyone to vent about anything they want. There are no "fool's rules" here on The Fool's Journey.
Be careful what you wish for John... (or sanction here! LOL) My blog was tossed out of Google recently (my page ranking evaporated entirely) because some low... um "person"... hacked into Wordpress and embedded spam into my archived posts. Thousands of others too not just me. It was all back of house... a huge nuisance... and a nightmare to clean up. Have got to wonder what makes people stoop so low...
But I did wonder about opposition blog platform Blogger (owned by Google) etc. One does wonder about these things... and corruption does happen.
You're right, Jean, one can't be too careful.... I should qualify my sweeping statement about permissiveness, and grant free rein only to you regulars.
