Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Any Landing You Walk Away From Is a Good One

To get a pilot's license one not only undergoes extensive flight training, but must also complete ground schooling in things like principles of flight, weight and balance, meteorology, rules and regulations, and navigation. To get through it quickly there are full immersion three-day courses. Basically they're designed so you can cram like crazy Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and then show up at the FAA bright and early Monday to take the required written test, after which, I'm guessing, well over half the applicants forget everything they've learned. It's scary to think that once you've got your license those bozos are up there with you, inhabiting the same airspace.

A PPL here in Aus requires a minimum of 40 hours flying experience followed by three theory exams and a flight test. I guess it would be possible to cram all that flying into three days... but heck... you'd be awfully tired (and unfit the sit the exam come Monday!) Maybe it's me... but I think learning to fly should be one discipline without the option of a 12 item express lane! Just me. LOL

We too have the minimum 40 hours, Jean, and the flight test. The three days is just for "ground school" and the written part of the test, what I'm guessing is what you call "theory exams.".

Ok, what happen to my comment. Posted it this morning and it was very witty, even if I say so myself. Come on, come on, who deleted it from the site? Everyone including my computer thinks they are critics. Going to sit in the corner and pout!

I think it is not as easy to learn to fly as you make it seem.

One of my sons was caught in the last draft and joined the Navy and ended up as a parachute rigger at Whiting Field where they train the Navy flyers. Back then only college graduates were trained to fly. He always had thought he would want to learn to fly, but after spending 2 years there he changed his mind. Those college graduates crashed and were killed too often while in flight school.

you can't learn much in a 3 day crash course.
