Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. No News Is Extremely Good News

Paris, Brittney, Lindsay, O.J., Don Imus, Robert Blake, Mel, George, Anna Nicole, Jo Beth (remember her?), it's all become one big blur. When did the civic duty of being informed turn into an endless feeding frenzy of Peeping Tom-ism? Perhaps the worst part is the way these paroxysms of mass obsession with the unbearably uninteresting inevitably are accompanied at a certain point with the media's questioning who's to blame for the hysteria. It's like the proverbial fox wondering who bears responsibility for his raiding the hen house, his rapacious self, the tasty chicken, or the farmer who left the coop door open. Being informed nowadays is beginning to feel like being raped. Have people's lives become so drab, loveless, and unbearable that they actually desire to be violated in order to spice up their otherwise humdrum existence?

If I hear one more thing about poor little Paris?, I am going to pitch the TV or radio out the window. Beginning to have a small amount of respect for Martha Stewart who did her time without whining to this extend.

Would rather to see how the Democrat who got caught with the money in the freezer explains how he is totally innocent. At least his explanations provide a few laughs.

I think that's what they refer to as frozen assets.

hahaha... good one John!

And I agree... who exactly is to blame? I'm not a fan... but couldn't help but feel empathy for this girl as the paparazzi clamoured in packs outside her home and swarmed all over the car taking her back to the courthouse. It was a terrifying scene. Makes one wonder why such an example is being made of this one "rather-overly-indulged" but otherwise innocent individual whilst a goodly number of corporate criminals (some in very high places) roam free.

Seems the tall poppy syndrome is alive and well... and here was me thinking it was an aussie phenomenon LOL

John, I think you came up with the answer. People keep themselves isolated in their homes for the confort of air conditioning and TV and video games. They don't even get to know their neighbors now.
Last evening my daughter and I drove to Blockbusters to rent a couple of movies. It was about 7:30 and there was no one on the streets. Back before air conditioning everyone would have been sitting out in their yards or chatting with neighbors or pulling some weeds in flower beds, with the kids running and playing games. We used to take our children to a near by lake for a swim to cool off. Life gets dull if you spend all of your time by yourself, unless you do as we do... communicate by computer...LOL

“Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them,” so said Henry David Thoreau. If Hank had been around today watching Paris and Brittney carrying on surely he’d have altered that to read “ A lot of women lead lives of noisy desperation and you can go to the grave without hearing a decent tune.”

I swear I'm not making this up, but I never hear anything about the people you mention, except on this blog site.
I simply don't turn on the TV or radio.
I read the paper every day, but if the story is something stupid I skip reading it. When I want to see something specific, like the debates, I watch it on CNN on my computer.
I save a lot of time this way, and even more aggravation!

hahaha... a great use of Thoreau Prof! I feel sure if he'd witnessed all the latest antics he would have been in complete agreement... :-D

Katherine... that's very true. Living as we do in the tropics... summer now spells closed doors in homes (and cars) and very little interaction with the outside world. How bizarre it's all become! We are living in a bubble!

It's winter here at last and I can throw open the verandah doors and let the breeze and sunshine in! ahhhh...LOL

Paris is not an innocent , Jean. Was caught three times driving while drunk. Speaking for myself, it will be a pleasure not to have her back on the road for awhile. Somehow the importance of what she did has gotten lost in the shuffle.

My mistake... fortunately for me I am far too far away to have followed her (apparently extensive) crime sheet. Toss her in prison and throw away the key then... that'll teach her! :-(

I just hope they apply the same heavy handed justice to the criminals who DO kill maim torture and rape... but we all know they won't do that. There isn't nearly as much mileage in it.
