Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. A Dog's Life

It's been nine months since my buddy Leonardo, my 16-year old Jack Russell Terrier whom I refer to as a Jack Rascal Terrorist, was diagnosed by the vet as having a serious congestive heart condition and given a matter of days to live. That was back in June and he's still going strong. Oh sure, he shows signs of aging. He coughs, he wheezes, occasionally he staggers slightly, especially when he's just woken up, and there are moments he seems a bit lost, but most of the time his appetite is excellent, he's energetic and in good spirits, and he still likes to jog when he goes for a walk. It seems he still has money in the meter.

Take it while you can John. I had to have my 13 year old Gordon put to sleep. Planning on adopting a rescue grayhound in early May after my trip to dalmatia and venice. roger

The will to live, whether it be found in animals or man, is a wonderful thing to behold. As Dylan (Thomas) once wrote: “Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” Of course, he was addressing this to his father, but it might just as well have been said to a favorite pet.

Professor... it was those very words that Roger led me to when my mother was putting up the good fight at the end of 2005. It's a great poem isn't it... and expresses the feeling so well.

John... Leonardo is a dear boy with an enduring spirit it would seem... may he continue to enjoy renewed vitality!

John, will you be able to take your usual trip to Maine with him? I know how you feel. Appreciate every day with him.

Leonardo is a hero in my books, John C. Glad that he is still trucking along.

Love this cartoon.

Thanks, all, for the kind words. Roger, I know how you must have felt. I had Leonardo's mother and father before him -- that's over a quarter of a century that this little family has owned me. But Leonardo's a fighter. Ellie, I would love to do the trip again, but I'm afraid gas prices are against it.
