Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Til Life Do Us Part

If there's anything that should be outlawed by a constitutional ammendment it's marriage. Think about all the violence that's been caused by people who feel trapped in relationships that they can't get out of without paying lawyers megabucks. Oh sure, breakups would still be messy, but they're going to be anyway, so why not just be able to end it with a tap on the shoulder and a "see ya?" If it was that easy people wouldn't get complacent and overly secure, and they'd all work harder to keep their partners happy. That's the theory anyway.

Dan Ariely in his book Predictably Irrational tests the commitment theory by assessing people's honesty before and after reading the Ten Commandments. Those who read them felt more committed to answer honestly than those who didn't. Commitment is what holds a society together... without it people would become morally and emotionally vagrant. (But that's just what I think) ~grin~

Great to see you back up and running John!

Great observation, Jean!

And thanks for the good wishes. The powers that be never told me what the problem was, they just flipped the switch so I was up and running again.

glad that they came to their senses, John. I do not agree in regards to commitments, however, I, also, do not agree that a commitment is between man and woman only. Love should be the primary reason for the commitment, plus hard work. Great cartoon.

PS Interesting theory about the Ten Commandments. Jean. Also think that it is a pity that so many take their vows so lightly. What ever happen to 'one word of honor should always be kept' or is that just too old fashioned these days?

I dunno, it seems to me pretty hard to disagree with that. The statement doesn't specify commitment to whom.... or what. It can mean a spouse, a "life partner," children, an institution, a tribe, a country, an ideal, a god, all or any of the above.
