Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Janus Anyone?

The "issue" of whether or not Gov. Sarah Palin could function as a mother and as president is bogus, so bogus, in fact, I suspect it's been cooked up by Republicans to distract from the really disturbing question. Is she qualified or prepared for the job? The other "great debate" going on, also serving to keep people from looking too seriously into the lady's background, is whether her private life should be, as they say, "off the table." This one's a howler. On the one hand, the neocon strategists insist this election is all about character. On the other hand they want us to ignore the fact that a public official who is vehemently against sex education in the schools has a seventeen-year old unmarried daughter who's pregnant. The guv is also against abortion under any circumstances, even in the case of incest or rape. So what does she think should be done with all those unwanted babies in the ghettos? Hint: if you were tempted to say welfare, guess again.

Oh boy... this is such a curly one isn't it?

The way it looks from way over here (and granted that's a very long way) is that the token woman has been brought in to lure the female vote from disenchanted Hillary supporters across to the other side. Probably a smart move... (if it weren't so darned condescending)

Conversely over in the other camp... the token mature aged (am I allowed to say white?) man has been brought in to fill in any perceived shortfall in that department. Again... probably a smart move... (if it weren't so darned condescending)

The interesting thing is... that the running mates chosen in each case kind of cancel each other out... making harder now than ever for the man/woman in the street to make an intelligent choice.

It's all smoke and mirrors... smoke and mirrors... but we already knew that didn't we? LOL

Clearly distance doesn't dim your perception, Jean. Whatever one's indivudual position on so-called issues, the process in politics is pretty cynical.

first time that I have really disagreed with your commentary, John C. Was this condescending, maybe in the beginning but this woman is a rising star, More Power to her! If Obama's family is off limits, then so is this woman's family. No one has the right to judge her ability as a mother except her family. To do so is truly smug. You are wrong, John C., she is not against abortion if the mother's life is in danger, case of incest or rape. Look at her record, not what the bloggers say. Not saying that she is part of a party that I will vote for in Nov. but really getting tired of the male and female main media bashing. Almost makes me decide to vote for the rep. just to thumb my nose at the media. Childish, I know but enough is enough.

PS. Despite my disdain for the commentary, this is truly a funny cartoon that made me laugh out loud.
