Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. SOS

I'm increasingly nagged by the feeling that our society and culture has become an embarrassment, on the verge of collapse, or both. New evidence was presented this weekend, with the trumpeted and breathlessly repeated headline that ABC would announce this morning the line-up for this year's Dancing With the Stars, as if in the midst of economic collapse, impending ecological disaster, and wars this was major news. As if this wasn't bad enough, it turns out that one of the celebritards is to be the disgraced former House speaker, Tom DeLay. Can't wait to see him trip the light fantastic.

There's only so much bad news people can take and I guess it provides a bit of a distraction. If the laws of attraction are what they say they are it's probably good that people focus on Dancing with the Stars rather than the abysmal state of the world economy. I mean... who needs more of that? LOL

Y'know, Jean, I really agree with you. If I didn't believe in the therapeutic value of distraction then, gosh, I wouldn't be drawing cartoons. But I just think there's so many better directions in the world of art that we can turn our attention. And I'm not necessarily talking about so-called "high" art. I saw some fabulously fun and funny cabaret acts this weekend, people who we were really good at what they do, unlike the fumble feet on Dancing. [grin]

The federal budget deficit is projected to be $1.84 trillion this year. The is more than the entire federal budget in 2000.

It's hard to imagine how we dig ourselves out of this.

I know, I know where the money is coming from, our wee little printing presses in Washington. How we are going to back up the funny money is another story. Never watch this program but why is a politician appearing? Was he well known for his two step?
