Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Be Happy

We're assaulted daily by our lawmakers, pundits, and industry leaders telling us what the current state of the economy is and what needs to be done to get things humming again. Yesterday I was on the freeway, spending my Saturday afternoon creeping along on a trip that Google Maps told me would take 44 minutes in ideal conditions but two hours and twenty minutes in heavy traffic, which is just about always. It occurred to me that it was the lawmakers, pundits, and industry leaders that once pushed the freeway system on us as the pathway to a brilliant future. What it actually did was make them richer. When will we learn?

Your commentary reminds me of a book called Toxic Sludge Is Good For You. I love that title.

Thanks for the link Andrew (interesting stuff)

Firstly John. Love the cartoon. Intensely dislike email forwards. And empathise about the freeway system.

I wonder though what would have happened without it? The population is burgeoning. How do we handle such an influx... keep them moving... eating... housed... employed and otherwise occupied? We need stuff. Even if only a small percentage of what is currently being pushed up our nose.

You will be happy to know that the media here are heralding the upturn of our economy... [on the back of another natural resources boom]. It's business as usual over here... or so they would have us believe... and until next time around [I guess].

Thanks, Andrew. Jean's right. Interesting!

Jean, my point wasn't really a about the freeways or the financial mess. What saddens me is the fact that the world pays little attention to visionaries who could create a better future. Rather we listen to the greedy and powerful who often silence the visionaries precisely because they stand in the way in their march toward domination and acquisition.

I do agree John... but just have to wonder though what the visionaries would have done different. I guess we will never know now because they have been (and continue to be) silenced?

Actually, Jean, there's ample documentation regarding those who tried to speak out in favor of enlightened solutions for the future, but none of them would have enriched big oil, big cars, and big rubber.

I guess we don't have big oil, big cars or big rubber over here... so I am unqualified to speak.

Good gosh, Jean, if I need to be qualified for the things I speak about I might be silenced. [grin]
