I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies.

When You're Down You Can Only Go Up
The National Enquirer has reported that John Edwards is set to marry the mother of his love-child. Surprise, surprise, Mr. Edwards denies it. Does he honestly think that at this point anyone is going to believe his denial? Whoops, I just used the word "honestly" in a sentence about John Edwards. As my lacrosse kids say, my bad."

These two deserve each other in my opinion. Neither one is getting much for their money. I feel sorry for the child.
I find it amusing that you are quoting the National Enquirer.
Then again, it has one of the highest circulations among American newspapers. USA Today and The Wall Street Journal each have around 2 million circ., and New York Times and National Enquirer each have around 1 million.
Therefore the Enquirer is one of the most influential publications in America. That explains a lot.
Hey, forget about circulation. The NE was the first to break the story of Edwards's indiscretions, long before the mainstream media would touch it. And they repeatedly got it right.
