Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. This Petty Pace

I am pathologically punctual. If I'm invited to a dinner party at, say, seven o'clock, I'll be there at the dot of seven. Sometimes I can't help it. I try to be a little late and I still end up arriving a precisely the appointed time. Other times I'll arrive ten or fifteen minutes early and have to walk around the block a few times. Here's what ticks me off (pun intended), the hosts are never ready when I get there because they've assumed everyone will be fashionably late, so I end up feeling like a clumsy intruder as they rush around trying to get things ready. Why the heck do we even bother with clocks and watches, if people seem to pay so little attention to them? When I drove cross country, just me and my two dogs, I crawled into my tent to sleep when the sun went down and was on the road when it came up. I ignored the time, I kept mileage.

Louis XVIII of France said "punctuality is the politeness of kings." He suffered from a severe case of gout. Drawn you own conclusions.

I'm not sure I understand the connection either, but it's a fact that I have high levels of uric acid, which can lead to gout.

I too am punctual and often embarrassed by arriving too soon. As time runs out it is a way of cramming more into the day. I am off on a tour of Croatia and Venice April 10. roger

Interestingly enough, I too often have unusually high levels on uric acid particularly when I try to be on time; that leads me to believe that there must be a definite connection between punctuality and royalty. My conclusion is that those who are punctual should be kings. If anyone out there knows of a kingdom looking for an on-time king, please post notice to this blog ASAP.Thank you.

No fears of gout here! I drive my husband nuts with my lax attitude concerning time, (there's a lot of German in him...does being German or Swiss condemn one to the clock?)
Love the cartoon John!

In answer to the question "does being ... Swiss condemn one to the clock?," the answer is "not unless you're cuckoo."
