Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Scaredy-Crows

The bloviators were at it big-time over the weekend. In the hours after Hillary's win in Pennsylvania last Tuesday they didn't know quite what to make of it, so they blathered a lot about how even though the victory was decisive her percentage of the vote was down from earlier polls. The story's changed now, and the wagging media yaps are declaring that while Obama has been beset by bumps in the road lately, Hillary is stronger, more confident, and, well, presidential. True, the new party line goes, Hillary didn't win as big as she might have liked, but she was outspent by Obama three to one. If it keeps up like this by next week they'll probably be saying that even though Obama has an all but insurmountable delegate lead he should get out of the race for the sake of party unity. We should all learn from the NASCAR race yesterday at Talladega. Half the field crashed on the final lap.

My suspicion is that this prolonged, should I say endless primary season has vastly improved the ratings of the 24/7 cable news networks, therefore no respite in sight. In four years time, the primary season will begin the day the new president is sworn in and will continue non-stop for four years. Why? Because those highly-paid pundits and pundettes must be kept busy “yapping,” to borrow your felicitous verb. Yes, an occasional devastating tornado, Austrian, or train wreck may fill some air hours but not for long. How can they possibly interfere with the time it takes for the opinionists to change their minds from week to week. He’s up, he’s down, she’s in, and she’s out. Hate & Love. Bread & Circuses. In roman times they kept the populace happy by feeding Christians to Lions. Now it’s our grownup Politicians and Teen celebrities who are being masticated in front of our eyes

Wait, wait, doesn't the Democratic party say no vote should go uncounted? What about Florida and the other state? Ok, forget the other state as Obama was not on the ballet and my question is why wasn't he? Seems to me that the Democrats have got a tiger by the tail and can not let go. Never thought that Hillary got a fair shake from the media after they heard Obama's silver tongue. Not taking away from Obama but why don't they hold two new elections in both of those states? Besides, you can call me a racist, a bigot or what have you but that paster of Obama's is nuts and I stand by that and Obama does not stand up to him so would he stand up to the enemies of the US? Feel sorry for Obama in a way but still think Hillary is the better candidate.

In Michigan the Republican state senate originated the primary move date. The democrats went along slavering over the money the media would spend. The DNC decided to enforce the rules and Obama Edwards et al withdrew. Now no one will put up the money to run a new primary. I am an OLD michigan resident and after watching this primary season I long for the smoke filled rooms. I didn't vote in the Michigan primary. roger

Ah, but Lee, have you heard Rev. Wright's sermon in its entirety, the one with the incendiary sound byte that keeps being replayed 24/7? I'm guessing not, and neither have most of the media yappers. Only Bill Moyers had the courage to play it, and to give Wright a platform to explain himself. To hear it in context is a very different thing. One can disagree or agree, but he is a far cry from "nuts."

I agree with John here. Watching the right Reverend Wright being wrong is convincing enough evidence that the man is far from nuts. He knows exactly what’s he doing. Add his name to a long line of charismatic preachers, both white and black, who became rich by articulating all the hidden hatreds and open prejudices of their well-healed congregations --the more outrageous the conspiracy theory the fuller the collection plate. Unfortunately for me, there’s a perpetual smirk on the Reverend’s face that disturbs me: it reminds me at times of our present president and that ex-senator from Wisconsin, Joe McCarthy. “Am I really away with this? Do they really believe all this crap I’m spewing?”
