Cartoons, cartoons, cartoons.... John Crowther's Cartoon Odyssey

I think of it as The Fool's Journey. I've been asked who the "fool" is. It's me, but in the classical sense of the court jester. Only the fool was allowed to tell the king of his follies. All cartoons are available as prints or originals, framed or unframed, through my website or e-mail. Ride 'Em, Cowboy

Just to clarify about yesterday's commentary. I have no present plans to take a vacation. The daily cartoon is a welcome necessity in my life, since if I wasn't obsessing about it I'd be obsessing about far less enjoyable things. Don't be surprised, however, if I omit an occasional (or less than merely occasional) commentary. I may not always have something to say, which has probably been self-evident more than I like to admit.

John... I know you have always drawn your cartoons traditionally but can you see any benefit in using a wacom tablet in your current process? Or are you like me... and enjoy the more tactile freehand traditional approach. So much cartooning is now done digitally... it kind of worries me a bit. But I guess in a commercial sense it does somewhat speed up the process. In the recent Cartoon Exhibition It was heartening to see how much freehand stuff is still about.

Great question, Jean. I'm with you. I don't think there will ever be a time that I'll give up hand drawing in favor of the computer. I have a Wacon, and occasionally use it for small corrections, but that's as far as I'll ever get. To me it's like trying to walk fast on ice.
